A Way to Prevent Elevator Accidents
New York, NY
Due to the extensive number of elevator accidents in the city, the New York City council has mandated a new rule to install on all existing elevators (about 60,000 units) a new device that prevents elevators from running with open doors as a result of either negligence or malfunction. That create the most horrific elevator accidents, http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/West-End-Avenue-Manhattan-NYC-Elevator-Death-288062721.html
Building owners and property management have 5 years to comply by Jan 1, 2020.
A patented technology from New York-based Fail Safe Safety Guard (http://www.fssg.us/) provides the technology to comply with this new elevator safety law.

FSSG - Prevents Elevator Accidents
Due to the extensive number of elevator accidents in the city, the New York City council has mandated a new rule to install on all existing elevators (about 60,000 units) a new device that prevents elevators from running with open doors as a result of either negligence or malfunction. Building owners and property management have 5 years to comply by Jan 1, 2020.
The patented Fail Safe Safety Guard (FSSG) by Rolls Elevator is now available in the North American market. The FSSG is serially connected to the door-lock circuit. It constantly monitors the door-lock and car-gate circuits for bypass, which takes place intentionally or occurs accidentally to prevent normal elevator operation with open door(s). It also constantly monitors for any attempt to bypass the FSSG device.
The FSSG is the only device that, upon bypass detection, automatically disables normal elevator operation and keeps the unit out of public service until the bypass is removed, while retaining inspection operation. It is also the only device that signals elevator technicians to remove the bypass when it’s no longer needed (when the door-lock circuit is closed).
The FSSG monitors the full safety chain, as required with modern and old elevators. This includes monitoring of the bottom door, intermediate doors, top door and car door, with consideration for pre-opening and re-leveling with open door(s) and A17.1, the Firefighters' Service Phase 2.
It is easy to adapt the FSSG to any kind of elevator without the need for controller modification. Only 1 hour is needed for installation time.
Safety in New York City and the Rest of the World
The FSSG is compliant with New York City's NYCBC-2014, per the recently published LL 141, Section 3.10.12. Upon gaining this compliance, Rolls Elevator donated 20 units to local elevator companies in the city. The FSSG has also met International Electro technical Commission (IEC) standards to earn a Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2 certification per the IEC 61508:2010 Functional Safety of Electrical/Electronic/Programmable Electronic Safety-Related Systems standard. Additionally, the device meets SIL 3 requirements for "Safe Failure Fraction."
Other FSSG approvals are from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) under the UL 508 standard for industrial control equipment as "elevator controls and accessories," ASME A17.5/CSA B44.1 and Canadian standard for industrial control equipment C22.2 No 14-13. The approvals refer to all kinds of elevators and escalators, as well as other moving equipment that employs safety circuits subject to bypass.
